The cornhole also known as the bag toss is a fun backyard game and can be played by everyone. It simply involves tossing cornhole bags at platforms known as cornhole boards. The major aim of the backyard game is for the cornhole bags to go through the holes in the cornhole boards or at least land on them. It is not a difficult backyard game to master however, there are quite a number of terminologies you should know about the game. This will make it easier for you to play the game. Therefore the basic principle behind the cornhole is that you get three points when any of the tossed bean bags go through the hole. However you score one mark when the cornhole bags do not go through the hole but land anywhere on the cornhole boards.
The ace or the cow pie means that the cornhole bags have landed on the cornhole boards. These are worth a point each. Airmail is a term used to describe the situation where the cornhole bags go straight through the hoe without even touching the cornhole boards. This is worth three points and other people may call it swishing. A dirty bag refers to the situation in which any of the bean bags land on the ground but are touching the cornhole boards; these are worth a point each. If any of the cornhole bags land on the cornhole board in such a way as to stop the other bean bags from going off the cornhole boards then this is referred to as a back stop. However if any of the cornhole bags lands on the boards in such a way as to stop the ones which are sliding from going through the hole then it is called a blocker. A golden sombrero is when a player tosses all his four bean bags into the hole during one round. The bag toss is divided into innings where each player gets to toss four bean bags. However, if a player does not get any of the bean bags into the cornhole and all of them land on the cornhole boards then this is called leprechaun.
Whenever any of the beanbags goes through the cornhole then you will hear people exclaiming buckets! and if one is followed by another then it is referred to as a response bucket. If the unfortunate happens during bag toss and one of the players bean bags pushes any of the opponents bags into the cornhole then this is referred to as a Carlton. A very funny term is cornfusion which is a situation in which the players cannot agree about the scores of a particular inning in the bag toss.
When trying to decide who gets to throw first for the next inning, this is referred to as honors and is given to the group that had scored the least points during the previous bag toss inning. There are so many other bag toss terminologies which you will learn as you continue playing.
