- There is no substitute for wearing a helmet when riding a bike. There are just too many accidents every year happening on our country's roads for the reason of not wearing a helmet. So buy your child a good quality helmet and ensure he wears it. Be an example to him by always wearing a helmet yourself when on a two wheeler.

- Forbid your child from riding his bike at night. Not only is it dangerous to ride with little or no light, it also increases the chance of being hit by another vehicle.

Wearing a bike helmet is the most important consideration while riding. But remember, wearing an ill- fitted helmet or a low quality one will not really help. Also, letting your child wear a helmet the moment he rides his first tricycle or a play vehicle will veer him towards the importance of wearing one later in life. The helmet should be worn in a way that the top part is just above your child's eyebrows. Make sure that the helmet is not so tightly fit that your child cannot open his mouth.
