Every time you reach the parking garage/your parking spot/a place to park your car, there are certain things you do. Of course, you park your car. Then you turn off the engine. You pick up your papers, clothes, bags - whatever you brought along. Then you close the door. And you lock it.
Want a replay? Let's not miss that last step...the one about closing the door. You wouldn't just leave the door hanging open. Why? So that nothing breaks in or escapes out (Stop looking at me that way; how should I know what (or whom) you lock up in your car?) Closing door means that in your absense, you know that no burglar, escapee from the local psychiatric institution, hotwiring teenage joy-rider, animal or fleeing terrorist will just mosey on into your vehicle.
In your backyard, you might have a vehicle, too. It's called a hot tub...and it can carry you off to a place that your car simply can't. It can carry you off toa world of calm and relaxation, perhaps even toa planet the other side of Elsewhere.
When you arrive from that pleasurable journey, what do you do? What steps do you take? You step out. You grab your towel (maybe in the reverse order). You grab your mug or your book, and you head into the house. Oh, wait... there is something to do before going back into the house -you put the cover on your hot tub.
ust like in your car, you don't want anything to sneak in or climb out while you are away, especially in Canada's climate. (Hey - stop looking at me like that!)
KEEP THINGS OUT
What would you expect to fall in while you are in the house or out running errands, if you fail to replace the hot tub?
- small animals (You don't want to wake up to a dead dog or possum in your hot tub, do you?)
- leaves might fall from nearby trees and bushes
- trash blowing around in the wind (the more debris in the spa, the more chemicals you'll need to use, the more often you'll have to clean, and the more often you'll need to replace the filter, which might not work as well as it should with all the debris clogging it.)
- spiders and insects (Ew! Creepy crawlies!)
-children (Yes, just like swimming pools, hot tubs can drown a small child who wanders in by mistake.)
- vandals, who are just wandering the neighbourhood looking for trouble
KEEP THINGS IN
What could possibly escape from the hot tub while while your back is turned? I know, I know - there you go looking at me funny again. But there is something in your hot tub. You do keep something in your hot tub that can slip out behind your back...two things, in fact: sweet heat and valuable money.
You spend quite a bit of money heating your hot tub. Even when you turn down the heat during the week or during your absense, keeping the hot tub hot isn't cheap at all. Leaving your tub exposed allows the heat to escape in several ways:
- The wind blows across the hot tub and cools the water.
- The sun evaporates the water, which needs then to be replaced and heated.
- The night air also cools down the water, along with everything else.
- Steam may rise, taking heat with it.
As heat escapes, so, too, does your money. The more heat escapes, the most you have to pay to reheat the water. So a spa is not just an investment in keeping all sorts of unwanted items, creatures and people from falling into your hot tub. It is also an investment in lowering the costs of maintaining your spa. It might surprise you to learn that when you look at the net cost, your hot tub costs you nothing; it actually makes you money. It actually reduces your expenses
If you are an outdoor spa or hot tub owner, a cover is a no-brainer decision. There are many styles to choose from, and they can easily be custom-fitted for any size or shape of tub. Whatever your spa is, wherever it is located, a hot tub cover is a wise investment.
